Tangerota Berry and Chocolate Vanilla Volcano

Hey y'all! Just giving the update, hope everyone out there is a doing well and ready for some freaky good pie.

Tangerota Berry, which is a mouthful, I know, is an amazing pie designed after an amazing lady. If you do not know Dorota Streitfeld or haven't been to one of the Rebel HQ parties that she co-hosts, your life is far less rich, colorful and a whole lot less interesting. She is, without a doubt, one of my favorite people in New England and defiantly one of the friendliest. Look her up sometime, you'll be greeted with a smile and open arms.

But what's in a Tangerota Berry? Things I knew she'd like, and hopefully you will, too. It's a Tangerine custard with slices of Strawberries sprinkled throughout and a healthy kick of Tequila. It is almost like a Tequila Sunrise, but better. And in pie.

You might ask what you need to do to get a pie designed and named after you. Well... be like Dorota.

Our other flavor this week is Chocolate Vanilla Volcano. This is a sweet vanilla custard with a dark, near black, organic chocolate layered on top. You'd expect me to go all spicy, but that's in a few weeks when the good chilies come out. But no, this is super sweet and awesome goodness. No spicy just yet.

We'll be at the Hope Artist Village in Pawtucket this Saturday from 10am until 1pm. We've exceeded capacity for delivery this week (even before the announcement! Been a busy girl!) so if you'd like to pick up a pie, hit us up at the market.

All you vegans out there, check us out next week, I've got something special with y'all in mind.
Hope everyone's well and having a wonderful week!

Choco Coco Tango and Strawberry Cream

First off, I wanted to thank the Providence Phoenix for our Editor's Pick in the recent Best of Providence issue. We were awarded "The Best Non-Maternal Way To His Heart". Which fits us to a tee.

But thanks isn't why the Phoenix loves us, or even why you're here. You'd like to know what the pie of the week is and how to get it. Alright!

This week we're featuring my Choco Coco Tango. Now, those of y'all have have had my Coconut Cream Pie understand that I don't make just any old ordinary Coconut Cream. This is a thick, gooey, luscious Coconut with high notes of fresh vanilla tons of shredded coconut throughout. I like to use the 1923 version of the recipe, which means before canning and the 50's Cult of the Housewife. Which means a better, older, richer process. And it shows in the pie.

But I go on, the Choco Coco Tango is a dark chocolate crust with a layer of chocolate in the bottom of the shell, topped with that beautiful, old Coconut Cream recipe. If you don't like coconut, you'll still love this. Decadent doesn't even cover it.

As always, our second flavor is for those who don't like chocolate or want something not quite as rich. Something simple and sweet, just a little this side of normal fair. For y'all we've got my world class Strawberry Cream. Halfway between a custard and a mousse, this is a soft, fresh and spingy little pie that pushes a strawberry to its' limits!

Both can be done Gluten Free, but not diabetic or vegan. I'll have something more appropriate for both next week. You can always order something special, if you have any dietary needs.

You can find these pies and at least one Cutie baker at the Hope Artist Village this Saturday from 10am until 2pm. If you'd like home delivery, just drop us an email or give a call to our office. As always you can pick up, if that's your preference, at Tina's Jamaican Restaurant on Atwell's Ave. right across from the Blue Grotto. Keep in mind, pick up requires at least 24 hours notice.

Thanks so much, again, guys! I know a whole lot of y'all voted for us (write in) for the Reader's Best Of, and I greatly appreciate it. Hope to see you at a market or on the delivery route soon. And our Spring/Summer market schedule is coming soon!

All our best!
~Iris

Please hold the applause!

Hey all! If you're reading this and are new to Cutie Pies, thanks!
As most of y'all know we were recently awarded with an Editor's Pick for Best Non-Maternal Way To His Heart by the Providence Phoenix. Thanks Phoenix editors!!

Also thanks to everyone that voted for us. We wouldn't be here without y'all.

I do have one favor to ask, though. Please bear with me while I'm updating the blog. Yes, I know I've promised in the past, but things have been a bit hairy over here, and I'm just catching up. Things should be back to normal as of Tuesday.

As for the pies of the week, I'm not quite ready to announce. I know we're doing something with coconut and chocolate, but not exactly what, and we've got kumquats coming in fresh (I've got a really wonderful weird thing for y'all with that one, just wait), but will have everything up to date on Tuesday.

Also look forward to more Pie pics, links, order forms and, of course, that massive pie list.
Until then, thanks and hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend!!

March 7th Market Cancellation

Hey all!
Just a little update, Cutie Pies will not be at the March 7th Farmer's Market. We've had an unexpected death in the family and need to go attend to the living.

We are going to be back for next week's market, so keep your eyes peeled and your mouth watered. Sorry if this cuts into anyone's plans, we'll make it up to you, promise!

Reappearance of the Key Lime

Hello all!

So maybe you noticed I didn't update last week. Maybe you were relieved to not have to hear about all the wonderful pies set out to tempt you into doing something against your waning New Year's resolutions. Maybe not. Last week I waited for Key Limes, that most holy of all citrus, but my fresh crate of the wonderful fruit arrived late last Friday. So no email. No time to warn y'all.

Again this week I waited, because I know I'm not the only one who adores this perfect little ball of limey wonder, I've ordered another crate. Fresh. Direct from Central Florida. And it arrived this afternoon. Just. In. Time.

So this week the Key Lime pie reappears. This is somewhat special for me. One, because it is the pie that launched Cutie Pies, and the other because it is simply my favorite. Everyone asks which of my massive pie menu has my undivided attention, and it is, after all the crazy concoctions, this feat of simplicity.

Key Limes come into perfect ripeness at the end of February. They signal the end of winter, the coming spring and the wheel of our year starting all over again. The Key Lime pie was created to simulate sunshine in your mouth, to bring the first warm glow of warmth that will lead a summer kiss of sun.

Yes, I get a bit romantic about Key Limes. They are one of our perfect fruits.

I will also have this week a wonderful, flirty little pie called Cranrazzle Cream, a Cranberry, Raspberry Cream that is simply divine.

Both will be at the Winter Farmers Market at the Hope Artist Village this Saturday, you can find directions here.

We'll also be delivering Key Limes ALL WEEK LONG. There is no limit on this one, just make sure you give us a 24 hours before you'd like delivery. We've got one last crate on the way, so there should be no problem accommodating everyone. Keep in mind because of the graham cracker crust, this pie cannot be done in small form, so whole pies only.

Special Diets: Both pies can be done gluten free. Neither can be lactose intolerant OR vegan OR diabetic. I know this puts a cramp in some sides, but if you need a delivery this week for a special occasion, give a shout, we'll see if there's anything else in my goody bag for you.

That said, I hope everyone is having a wonderful week, and a very happy end of February to you all. Here's hoping for spring and a little sun!

I Heart Providence!

Hello all!!

We've had a whole lot going on of late, but what I'm really excited about this week is showing some love to Providence! Cutie Pies will be at the I Heart Providence event this Tuesday evening (the 10th) from 6-8 at City Hall!

This event is hosted by Mayor Cicilline, who's always nice to bump into, and our Master of Ceremonies, Dan White, will keep us entertained and happy with live music from Jacob Haller and members of Route .44.

You'll also find complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be provided by Trinity Brewhouse, chocolate truffles for tasting and purchase by Sin, and heart-shaped pies by Cutie Pies. More info at the website!

And the Cutie flavors? I've sort of outdone myself this week. I express love and care through food, and it shows. We have six this week:
1. Wild At Heart, a chocolate, banana and caramel pie.
2. Falling in Love, which is a chocolate crust, fudge filling smashed with raspberries and a mint ribbon.
3. Wild Honey Pie is exactly what it sounds like, a perfect, sweet little honey pie.
4. Isn't She Lovely, a delicate vanilla and rose concoction.
5. My Psycho Ex, which, of course, is cashews and chocolate. Cause their nuts? But tasty.
6. Cupid Can Suck It. Yes, love goes both ways, and this is perfect if you're not currently in a relationship. This one is chocolate, cherries and hand made marshmallows.

We're doing something a little different this week, while we'll still have individual flavors there will also be "Flavor Packs", little cute boxes with miniatures of each flavor. The idea is to give your sweetheart something different this year. Hopefully they will think it's as cute as I do.

And if you can't come on out and show off for Providence, then think of heading to the Saturday Winter Market located at the Hope Artist Village in Pawtucket. Click here for directions

And if you still can't get out of the house? Give us a call, we'll deliver. Yup, delivery is still every Friday between 6-7pm, just give a shout by Thursday evening and you've got it. So that's it for this week, I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentines day!

Chocolate Lavender and Orange Buttercream

Happy New Year, y'all!!

Yes, it is your long lost Cutie Pie maker, only so because we've been up to our
elbows in work over here and are now getting the email/blog postings back up.

That said, let's get to the pies of the week! This week I'm serving up an
exciting pie, a flavor so old it is new again, Chocolate Lavender! Yes, not only
can you eat lavender, but it is down right good. This stuff isn't just for soap,
y'know.

We start off with a rich, dark chocolate and meld it with the most beautiful
organic, culinary quality lavender. The result is something that is sweet and
chocolaty on the front end with only a hint of that warm fragrant lavender, but
builds into a heady taste that almost overwhelms, but not quite. Cooking with
lavender has been a long time favorite of mine, and I thought y'all would
appreciate something completely different and unexpected.

Our other flavor this week is one I've done before, but keep getting requests
for. I can't hold back when there's so many requests, so I've brought back the
Orange Buttercream Dream. For those of y'all that haven't had it yet, think a
Creamsicle in a pie. This lovely little custard will warm you up from the inside
on a cold winter day, thoughts of the tropics float through your head and
suddenly it doesn't feel like snow at all.

Both these pies can be done gluten free, but neither are lactose intolerant,
sugar free or vegan. I'm sorry.

If you have a special request for any pie, just give a shout or email and we'll
get whatever you like to you. All orders for delivery must be in by Wednesday
the 14th and delivery is at your convenience.

You can also come to the Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket for the Winter
Market. That is every Saturday (tomorrow) between 11-2. Lots of great vendors
and excellent products. And pie! Check out the website for directions and
information.

Finally, let me say, my hope is everyone had an excellent holiday a great New
Year and wish for an even better year to come. That has been my own personal
holiday wish for everyone and the only thing I wanted this year. And also to
thank all y'all for making this a great holiday season for Cutie Pies. I'm
truly, completely grateful.
